What to do if Your Tire Pressure Monitoring System Light comes on
Winter takes a toll on our vehicles. Between the salt on the road and the frigid temperatures, we probably don’t give our cars enough credit for getting us from A to B. It’s no wonder, though, why some people notice more lights and warnings coming on during this time of year. A common warning light we hear our customers experiencing is low tire pressure. Typically, this is something you can resolve on your own. However, there are occasions when you should make a service appointment at Markquart Toyota. The light comes on and stays on. This means one (or more) of your tires is at a low pressure level. What you can do is use a gauge to check the PSI (pounds per square inch) of all your tires. You can find your vehicle’s PSI in the owner’s manual. If any of the tires are low, you can fill it to the correct PSI at most gas stations. If you’re not comfortable doing this yourself, Markquart Toyota would be happy to help. The light comes on then goes off. This is common during colder months. Have you ever seen an empty plastic bottle that’s been outside in the cold? It looks deflated. This is sort of what can happen to tires in the winter. When it warms up during the day, the pressure in your tires may increase back to normal. Usually, you can just let your vehicle warm up, and the pressure will return to normal. If not, you can again check the PSI and fill your tires accordingly. The light flashes and stays on. When this happens, it means the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) isn’t functioning properly. If this is the case, you should make a service appointment. If the TPMS isn’t working, it won’t be able to warn you when your tire pressure is low and needs to be repaired. Summer Road Trip Tips from Markquart Toyota
Summer is a great time for road trips because the kids are out of school, the weather is nice, and you don’t have to worry about snowy, icy roads. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t steps you can take to make sure you have a safe, fun road trip, which is why we put together this list of summer road trip tips! Get your vehicle inspected. Stop in to Markquart near Eau Claire to get your oil changed. During this time a multi-point vehicle inspection will be performed, which will make sure your vehicle is in good condition for a road trip. Check your tires. These will be taking most of the wear and tear this summer. Make sure they have air, the treads aren’t worn down too much, and that you have a spare. Create an emergency kit: This goes beyond the first aid kit. Also include things like nonperishable food items, water, a flashlight, tools, and other items that you’ll know you’d want if you broke down in the middle of nowhere while it’s dark outside. Have a co-pilot: The driver needs to focus on one thing only – driving. The co-pilot should be responsible for controlling the music, navigating, and anything else that would distract the driver. Once you get these necessary safety precautions out of the way, it’s time to have some fun! Make sure to have snacks readily available to avoid filling up on too much fast food, and of course get your list of road trip games ready to go. Remember, the journey is half the fun, and if you set yourself up for smooth sailing you can enjoy peace of mind during your summer vacations.
Tom Jakowicz, Parts Manager, Celebrates 20 Years
Originally from Boyd, Tom has known the Eau Claire area his entire life. He got started in the auto industry at 13 when he started working for his step father’s parts shop. Eventually, he found his way to Markquart and the rest is history. Tom says he enjoys working at Markquart so much because of the company’s values and integrity, how the employees are treated well, and how good the people are to work with. Words of wisdom he has gained from his experience includes keeping an open mind, accepting change, and understanding how everybody’s roles work together in an organization. When Tom isn’t busy helping people find the right vehicle parts, he’s probably spending time outdoors with his wife Roxann, and daughter Rayna. The family enjoys fishing, gardening, and hanging out with their two dogs and cat. Tom also really enjoys hunting, trapping, and occasionally playing the guitar. An interesting fact is that Tom holds the record for the biggest white-tail buck ever shot with a bow in Chippewa County and the 26 th largest in the state of Wisconsin. The next time you’re at Markquart Toyota be sure to stop and help us thank Tom for the past 20 years. We look forward to what the future brings!
Toyota Key Finder & Key Finder App for iOS
If you've ever experienced a morning like the woman in the video, you’ve probably also thought about having a key finder. Well look no more because Toyota has granted your wish with the Toyota Key Finder and free Key Finder app for iOS devices. The key finder uses Bluetooth to connect with the app on your Apple iPad, iPod, or iPhone and emits a beep if you push the “Activate Key Finder” button. You can even change the settings so that the finder goes off if it’s a certain range away from your device (up to 60 feet). You can also connect up to eight key finders to be used on your backpack, purse, or anything that the finders can be clipped to. The Toyota Key Finder is really easy to set up, and you can learn how in this video. Once you’ve set up the key finder, you can name it whatever you want from the app. So, if you have more than one, you can name them Keys, Backpack, Purse, etc. Who knew something so small could offer so much peace of mind?
Why DIY Oil Changes Can Actually Cost You More
Oil changes. They’re that annoying stop we have to make every six months to keep our vehicles running smoothly. They also cost somewhere between $30.00 and $80.00, so why not do it yourself? You can do it on your own time and save money, right? The truth is, there are hidden costs to changing your own oil that can hurt you in the long run. Service Centers Provide Additional Inspection When you take your vehicle to a service center like the one at Markquart Toyota, additional steps are performed like a Quality Vehicle Inspection, complementary alignment, battery checks. These are both preventative measures that can help prevent future issues. When you change your oil yourself, unless you know cars really well, you’re not able to perform some of these extra tasks. Doing it Yourself is More Complicated Now Due to the placement of oil drain plugs and oil filters on a lot of the new-design engines, they are not very easy to get at. Some oil filters are not spin-on-and-off anymore, so they are more difficult to change, and if you don’t have the proper tools to lift your vehicle, changing your oil can be dangerous. You also aren’t allowed to put oil and oil filters in normal garbage, so it can be extremely inconvenient to dispose of them. The Markquart Way At Markquart, we also provide a free wash* with every service completed, and we top off additional fluids like washer fluid. All of these things combined would easily add up to $30.00 or more if you wanted to do them yourself – and we haven’t even talked about the time it takes to change your own oil. Between going to the store to pick up the oil and the filter, and actually performing the oil change you could have been in and out of the service department. You can watch this video on the service experience at Markquart, or view our service homepage to see why getting your vehicle serviced as opposed to doing it yourself is truly worth it! *Weather permitting.
