The 2016 Toyota Prius is raising the bar for hybrid vehicles with its new look and awesome features. One of those is enhanced parking support, which is made up of available Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS) and available Intelligent Parking Assist (IPA). ICS scans for objects like other vehicles when Prius is parking or pulling out of a space. The system will emanate an alert, reduce engine/motor output, and apply the brakes if it expects a collision. There are some new looks and features for the 2016 Toyota RAV4 this model year. On the exterior, the front grille is more chiseled giving the SUV a more dynamic look. The wheels are a different style and size depending on which of the four trim levels you choose. Winter takes a toll on our vehicles.  Between the salt on the road and the frigid temperatures, we probably don’t give our cars enough credit for getting us from A to B. It’s no wonder, though, why some people notice more lights and warnings coming on during this time of year. A common warning light we hear our customers experiencing is low tire pressure. Typically, this is something you can resolve on your own. However, there are occasions when you should make a service appointment at Markquart Toyota. The light comes on and stays on. This means one (or more) of your tires is at a low pressure level. What you can do is use a gauge to check the PSI (pounds per square inch) of all your tires. You can find your vehicle’s PSI in the owner’s manual. If any of the tires are low, you can fill it to the correct PSI at most gas stations. If you’re not comfortable doing this yourself, Markquart Toyota would be happy to help. The light comes on then goes off. This is common during colder months. Have you ever seen an empty plastic bottle that’s been outside in the cold? It looks deflated. This is sort of what can happen to tires in the winter. When it warms up during the day, the pressure in your tires may increase back to normal. Usually, you can just let your vehicle warm up, and the pressure will return to normal. If not, you can again check the PSI and fill your tires accordingly. The light flashes and stays on. When this happens, it means the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) isn’t functioning properly. If this is the case, you should make a service appointment. If the TPMS isn’t working, it won’t be able to warn you when your tire pressure is low and needs to be repaired. It’s 2016 and vehicles have more technology in them than ever - back-up cameras, satellite radio, navigation, and more. With that, safety technology has been improving as well. One seemingly-simple, yet extremely useful, feature is Toyota’s Lane Departure Alert 1. This available safety feature helps the driver stay in his or her lane by emitting an audible beep and a flashing light on the instrument panel if the driver starts to drift over the white or yellow lines. The system detects the painted lines and can tell if the vehicle drifts over them. If this happens and the turn signal is not enabled, the system will assume the drift is accidental and warn the driver. When on the road it’s smart to err on the side of caution, and Lane Departure Alert helps you do just that. From November 12, 2015 to Christmas 2015, Markquart Motors and Markquart Toyota donated $100 for every new and used vehicle sold as part of Markquart Gives Back. This initiative aims to give back to the community that Markquart calls home. The $50,000 will be split between four Chippewa Valley organizations that make a difference in our community members’ lives every day – Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Chippewa Valley, Feed My People Food Bank, Chippewa Valley Free Clinic of Eau Claire, and the Open Door Clinic of Chippewa Falls. In order to encourage participation, people were able to follow the progress of Markquart Gives Back on markquart.com/givesback, as well as learn more about the individual organizations. Included in each of the vehicles sold was a Markquart Gives Back ornament, and a booklet explaining the initiative and each of the organizations’ missions. “We wanted our customers to be informed about these local organizations and the amazing work they do for our community,” said Amy Dachel, Marketing Manager for both Markquart Motors and Markquart Toyota.
