TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development. This is Toyota’s department for performance. You may not know this, but Toyota has racing teams worldwide, and TRD is the in-house tuning shop for these teams.
What does this mean for you? Thanks to TRD, customers have access to parts, accessories, and even trim levels that enhance your vehicle’s performance. The Tacoma offers two TRD trim levels: TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road.
Tacoma TRD Sport offers a 3.5-liter DOHC V6 direct-injection Atkinson-cycle engine. However, most noticeable are the exterior features. These include a gray grille with a smoke finish and chrome surround, color-keyed outside mirrors, 17-inch machined alloy wheels, and a color-keyed hood scoop to name a few. In short, this is a very sporty truck that looks as good as it is capable.
The Tacoma TRD Off-Road is ready for adventure with off-road tuned suspension, electronically controlled locking rear differential, multi-terrain select & crawl control, and Active Traction Control. The exterior is a little different than the TRD Sport with black overfenders, a chrome rear bumper, 16-inch machined contrast alloy wheels, and no hood scoop.
If you’re looking for a midsize truck that not only looks good covered in mud, but can also keep up with all of your adventures be sure to check out a Tacoma TRD Sport or Off-Road!
