We are almost halfway through November! That means that Thanksgiving is just around the corner and winter is well on its way. All of us at Markquart want to ensure that you are safe when you hit the roads in the coming months, so we put together a few of our favorite tips on preparing for Wisconsin’s winter.
  1. Put a ‘Winter Supply Box’ in your car
This tip is vital for every car because you never know when something could go wrong when traveling. Having a small Rubbermaid tote filled with the following items could ensure that you and your passengers are safe. Some items to consider packing are:
  • A few blankets to keep warm
  • A change of warm clothes for the driver in case their clothes get damp
  • A flashlight and road flares
  • Extra hats and gloves
  • A bag of sand
  • High energy snacks
  1. Have your engine coolant and antifreeze levels checked
Antifreeze is the substance that keeps your engine from freezing when it is literally freezing outside. The next time that you are in for a service appointment ask your advisor about a fluid check and top-off.
  1. Use winter windshield wiper fluid
Some may find it surprising that not all windshield wiper fluid is the same. The fluid that you use in the warmer months can actually impair your vision if used in the winter, as it freezes when it comes in contact with the windshield. “Winter” windshield fluid is designed for use in the blistering cold and can actually assist in loosening ice and snow, making it a lot easier to clear off.
  1. Have your tire pressure & tire tread checked
One of the most important steps in preparing for winter is ensuring that your tires are ready to battle the elements.
